A Mineola man was arrested after police said he drove off with a taxicab after allegedly placing his belt around the cab driver's neck.
According to police, on Feb. 1 at about 1:30 a.m., while a passenger in a taxicab, a man attempted to rob the cab driver of his receipts on Seventh Avenue near Jericho Turnpike by placing his belt around the driver's neck. Police said during the ensuing struggle, the driver was able to remove the belt and exit the vehicle. The man then climbed over the seat and drove off with the taxi, according to police.
There was no reported injury to the driver and the taxicab was recovered a short time later. The cab belongs to Stuart's of Westbury.
On Feb. 12 at 2:25 a.m., police arrested Scott Carlberg, 45, of Grant Avenue in Mineola, at Station Plaza. Carlberg was charged with one count of Robbery 1st Degree, two open warrants, which included one count of Assault 3rd degree, one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, one count of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree and one count of Harassment 2nd Degree.
