Superintendent Touts Accomplishments of School District
At the recent meeting of the Mineola Board of Education, during his state-of-the-district address, Superintendent of Schools for the Mineola School District Dr. Lorenzo Licopoli not only spoke about the investigation that led to the arrest of the assistant superintendent of finance and operations but also spoke about the recent accomplishments of the school district and then asked the public, at the end of the address, to consider that the upcoming bond referendum stand on its own merits.
Hometown Party Nominates Almeida
At the annual Hometown Party convention held on Jan. 30, the party nominated Tim Almeida to run for trustee on the Village of Mineola board of trustees. Almeida will run against New Line Party candidates Larry Werther, who is running for re-election, and John DaVanzo. The two candidates with the most votes will be elected to the board. Trustee Lou Santosus has decided not to run for re-election.
MHS Girls Varsity Basketball Notes
Sports, much like everyday life, is full of unexpected surprises. The bounce of a ball or a play call can affect the outcome of a game in your favor or just as likely cost your team a win. Even more serious can be the occurrence of an injury or illness to a player or coach. Such are the circumstances with the 2004-2005 Mineola High School girl's varsity basketball team.
Mineola Mustangs Make Tracks
The Mineola High School girls track and field team continues to write an amazing story, especially for a program that did not even exist five years ago. With very little in the way of track and field facilities, the girls track team has grown into one of the best in Nassau County. On Jan. 21, the winter track team won the conference championship meet and in doing so, unseated defending champion North Shore 120-97.
