Mineola will be 100 years old in 2006. In conjunction with the centennial we asked if anybody remembered any of the plays and actors who appeared at the Mineola Theater during the '60s when we had live productions. One lady recalled Rudy Vallee when he performed in How to Succeed in Business without Trying. Anita Cocheo remembered seeing Oklahoma and Front Page with Henry Fonda. Anita also saw Liza Minnelli in Fantastics. Another man mentioned The Odd Couple. Russ Miller saw The King and I with Betsy Palmer and Yul Brynner. Grace and I had our picture taken with Betsy at the library. Joanne Barbulla, a nine-year resident of the village, wondered if there were any plays now in town. I told her that there weren't but perhaps we could use her when we put on the centennial play next year. She has experience having performed with the Herricks Community Players. If you can think of more plays or have any pictures, call me at 747-8282. The three chairpersons of the centennial, Candy Maia, John Da Vanzo and Robert Hinck will be the guest speakers at the Chamber of Commerce meeting on Feb. 18.
