The Episcopal Church of the Nativity at 172 Willis Ave. was founded in 1899. The priest in the '40s and '50s was the Rev. Rex Pierce Butler. Father Charles Schnabel became rector in 1969 and served for the next 30 years. Peter Visconti serves as Senior Warden and Steve Osmer is the Junior Warden. Dan Mason is the organist and Jane Cosgrove is the parent administrator. The church has a small but active congregation and now depends on visiting priests for Sunday Mass which is at 10 a.m. They do, however, have a very active Little People's Academy for 3- and 4-year-olds, which runs year-round. Many of our presidents have been Episcopalians, including George Washington, John Adams and Franklin Roosevelt. Mineola's first mayor, Harry Asher, was also a member of the church.

I know you will find this hard to believe, but I made a mistake. Not in this column, but in the 100th anniversary story which I wrote a couple of weeks ago. I said that live theater performed at the old Mineola movie house in the 1970s, when it actually was in the '60s. Our son Richard, executive news editor at People, demanded a correction.
