The Mineola Chief's 7-year-old's went and played on the road again this past week as they beat the Inwood Buccaneers 13-6, to continue their winning ways for a record of 4-1-1.
Last Wednesday night, the 7-year-old Chiefs got to play in their first game ever under the lights down in Inwood, as they beat the Buccaneers 13-6. On the first series the Buc's scored on a double reverse to take the early lead 6-0. But that was it for Inwood, as the Chiefs defense stifled the Buc's offense. Big pressure was brought on by Teddy Capsis, Matthew Lafaye, James Gersner and Dennis Gannon. Linebackers Brian Smith, Thomas O'Connell, Andrew Cunningham, Michael Patalano and Peter McCormack crushed the Buccaneer running backs with solid intense tackling. The Chief's offense moved the ball all night long because of great blocking by the offensive line, centered by Jonathan Igoe and anchored by Gavin Dowd, Michael Delio, Colin Conroy, Edwin Rojas, Kyle Spruill, Kyle Leinhart and Nicholas D'Angelo.
In the first half, the Chiefs put together a terrific scoring drive, with key runs by Ryan Eccher, Andrew Cunningham, and Michael Patalano. On a fourth down play quarterback Thomas O'Connell ran a sweep for an exciting 20 yard touchdown run to tie the game 6-6. Teddy Capsis then ran in the extra point on a power dive, to give the Chief's the 7-6 lead going into halftime. The Chiefs never looked back.
In the second half the Chief's played lights out defense on the Buccaneers. The Buc's were overwhelmed and amazed by the Chief's tackling and speed to the ball. On a key second half scoring drive, Brian Smith had a powerful 10 yard run and Kyle Spruill ran a reverse 30 yards to get inside the Buc's 10 yard line. On fourth and goal from the 2 yard line Thomas O'Connell ran the quarterback sneak in for the touchdown and to extend the lead and a final score of 13-6.
All of the boy's had fun playing under the lights. Every 7-year-old played and participated in the victory.
