There was damage done to the lights surrounding both the Veterans Monument and 9/11 Monument at Mineola Memorial Park on Thursday, Oct. 28. Lights located on the perimeter of the monuments that provide light around the entire areas were smashed.

Although the perpetrators have not yet been found, cameras have caught them on tape. The Village of Mineola, from its cameras located at the adjacent library, has footage of the lights being smashed. The footage depicts approximately six to eight youths, estimated to be between the ages of 12 and 14, kicking at the lights. The time of the incident as shown on the taped footage is between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. during daylight.

Village personnel have filed a police report and a copy of the tape has been forwarded to the police department. The village will work with the police department in attempting to find the youths.
