I was so touched and uplifted by the recent editorial by Joe Rizza recounting my work for the community and sending out good wishes during my illness.
I have always loved Mineola, mainly because it is such a caring and thoughtful community. I greatly appreciate the many cards, prayers and visits I have received from my Mineola friends and neighbors during my illness. I have also had the best medical care from the various departments of Winthrop-University Hospital and the finest pastoral care from Deacon John Reinhart and the priests, sisters and staff of Corpus Christi Church. How lucky we are in Mineola to have such wonderful medical, religious and community institutions and the people who serve in them.
I want to especially thank my good friend Elizabeth Conlon for her kind words in Mr. Rizza's column. Betty did more than anyone I know to beautify and improve our village and we all miss her very much.
Thank you again to all my friends for your thoughtfulness. With the help of God and my doctors, I hope to be out and around the village to see you all again soon.
