To encourage children to read during the summer, Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli set up the Summer Reading Challenge.

"Reading is the key that opens the door to a whole world of information as well as adventure," said Assemblyman DiNapoli.

Calendars were distributed to schools and libraries in the 16th Assembly District. Parents were asked to mark off the days in July and August that they read with their children. If 40 or more days were marked off, the children earned a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate. The calendars should be returned to Assemblyman DiNapoli's district office., 11 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck, NY 11021 and the certificates will be mailed.
