In a letter to the Mineola American, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy states she is confident the Jackson Steel Superfund site will receive funding for its remediation.

'We've Reached a Threshold'
There were some startling numbers revealed at last Thursday's Mineola Board of Education meeting, the first one during the new school year. The district is projecting that in five years, the district will be spending just under $32,000 to educate a student in Mineola, which would be approximately $11,000 more than what the Nassau County average is projected to be in 2009-2010.

Mineola Mustangs Soccer Preview
Any high school coach who has a roster full of experienced players year after year is a very fortunate coach. Most coaches and programs have those experienced teams of upperclassmen followed by seasons of youth when that experience is gained. Such is the case for Mineola High School boys varsity coach Paul Pereira. After a couple of seasons with veteran players, this season coach Pereira will be doing a lot of teaching and coaching.

Wheatley to Dedicate Soccer Facility In Memory of Craig J. Grumet
Last spring, the Wheatley School-community was devastated by the untimely death of Craig Grumet, a junior at The Wheatley School. Craig, who was a unique and extraordinary young man, was killed in a tragic automobile accident on May 7, 2004. At Wheatley, Craig embraced, with a passion, many of the wonderful educational opportunities the school offered and he assumed a leadership role in a variety of programs. From the first day of soccer practice during his freshman year, Craig's inspired play and high level of skill earned him a starting position as a defender on the varsity soccer team. He was the recipient of the Tournament Sportsmanship Award during the New York State Soccer Championships during his freshman year, and as a sophomore and junior, Craig received All-Conference honors.
