Nicole Scala was the sweet young girl who was the lone altar server at a recent Mass at Corpus Christi. She was a great help to the celebrant Father Paul Dolan. Nicole is the daughter of Fred and Sarah Scala of Wellington Rd.

Mariann Martin has lived on Andrews Rd. for 50 years and 45 of those were spent working at the Mineola Library. Mariann remembers Mineola's first library which was housed in a little building on Banbury Rd.

We have our youngest resident of Beebe Rd., Charlee Denzler, who is the first child of Victoria and Timothy new residents of the village.

Ed Solosky was enjoying the Mineola pool with his granddaughter Elizabeth Proctor. Ed's wife Gerry is much better following a bad fall.

Downtown Mineola will soon have a lot more parking. A tiered parking garage will be built where NY Ravioli is now and another field opened where Allied is now.

Peter Fecht of Maple Place works at Gensel's Furniture. When he was much younger he worked as a delivery man at Franwin Pharmacy. He remembers the original owners Fran and Irwin Slotkin and their delivery man Larry Thompson. Speaking of Gensel, that landmark building will soon be torn down and Gensel will move to the shopping center next to the bakery on the other side of the lot.

Jack and Karen Gayson and Jack Simon and daughter Beth Ullo were among the diners at Churrasqueira restaurant.

Attending Joe Cavanaugh's wake was indeed a sad occasion not only for his wife and family but also for his many, many friends. His famous "God Bless You" will long be remembered. The Knights, Legion and VFW all held special services and the Rosary Altar Society held a rosary prayer service. Father Tom Murphy was among those paying their respects. We also met Richard and Charlotte (Joe's sister) Raad and their granddaughter Laura.

On the same day we stopped in to pay our respects to Paul Gill. Some may remember Paul's parents Mary and John Gill. John owned the Bridge Tavern which was, naturally, just beside the old Mineola bridge.

Frank and Josephine DiPrima of Foch Blvd. often visit their summer home on Shelter Island. Frank, who like me served in the combat engineers, helped build his house.

Herb Markhan and daughter Valerie of Pembrook Drive, ate at the Jericho. Herb is a member of the Eastern LI Bowling Hall of Fame. He used to write a column on the subject for newspapers upstate.

The beautiful Cookie Weber of Mineola now works at DeCarlo's restaurant on Herricks Rd.

Nancy Portoghese Bauer suffered a bad fall and broke her ankle. Hope she is on the mend.

We are very sorry to hear that Former Mayor Ann Galante is seriously ill. We pray she will recover.

Richard Allen was a former chef at the Garden City Hotel and now owns Richard's at the corner of Main and 2nd St. He also lives on Beebe Rd.
