Commissioner of the ECAC Phil Buttafuoco has announced that Adelphi University junior Katherine Hock has been named the 2004 ECAC Division II Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year while her teammate Allyson Murphy has been named 2004 ECAC Division II Women's Lacrosse Goalie of the Year.
Hock recently received IWLCA/US Lacrosse Divison II First Team All-America honors. She led the Panthers to their first NCAA title by scoring six second half goals to lift Adelphi to a 12-11 win over West Chester. Averaging 5.0 goals over the two-day tournament, she was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. For the third straight season, the three-time All-American led the Panthers in goals (52) and points (72). She is also the school's all-time career leader in goals (151) and points (185).
Murphy, a freshman, started in all 14 games for the Panthers and earned a 6.46 goal against average for the National Champions. Her save percentage was a .546. In the national championship game, Murphy made several key saves, totaling 12 stops in the contest. For her efforts, she was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team. She was also named to the 2004 Harrow Sports/IWLCA Division II North All-Region Second Team.
Freshman Tara Grodotzke was also named an ECAC All-Star first team selection. The team leader in draw controls (33), she also played a major role in the Panthers' post-season success.
Hock and Murphy are both Mineola High School graduates and Grodotzke is the grandchild of Mineola resident Alice Grodotzke.
