Library Sees Jump in Circulation
When residents of Mineola approved a $3.994 million referendum in October 1998 to renovate the Mineola Memorial Library, the vision for the library was one the community could be proud of. Figures recently released by the Nassau Library System indicate that the Mineola Library has grown in terms of its popularity so that it is becoming the library residents, village board and library board members envisioned.

All Island Applies for Taxi Fare Increase
All Island Taxi vice president Lawrence Blessinger appeared in front of the Village of Mineola Board of Trustees last Wednesday evening and urged the board to approve his application for an increase in taxi fees. All Island had applied for a rate increase for point-to-point service in Mineola, meaning from one destination in the village to another destination, from $3 to $5. However, Phil Fortuna, the vice president of Long Island Checker Cab, another cab company in Mineola, said the increase was unnecessary. An application to the village board is necessary since the board sets the rate for point-to-point service in Mineola.

Mineola Middle School's Scholar Athlete
John Englis, an 8th grade student at Mineola Middle School, was honored for playing seven sports during his 7th and 8th grade years (two years of football, basketball and lacrosse and one year of wrestling). He was voted as one of the captains of his 8th grade lacrosse team by his teammates. While playing these sports, he made the honor roll during his 7th and 8th grade years. Congratulations John.
