The 2004 pool season opened on Saturday, June 19 under sunny and breezy skies. Present for the opening ceremony were Mayor Jack Martins, Trustees Louis Santosus, Paul Cusato, Pool Board Members, Jeff Clark, Lou Sanders, Nancy Portoghese Bauer, Councilman Angelo Ferrara, Pool Supervisors, Erin Mulholland, Raymond Powers and Christopher Teemsma and many other visitors and guests. Both Mayor Martins and Pool Director Dan Kopetic acknowledged the pre-season staff including Activities Coordinator Marta De Sousa and Pool Operator Sean McCrave for doing an outstanding job getting the pool ready for opening day. The highlight of the ceremony was watching Katie and Emma Senk make the first splash of the season.

The Village of Mineola is proud to be the first village pool to offer scuba lessons provided by Scuba Network of Carle Place. This course is being offered for individuals 12 years of age and older. The discounted registration fee is $150 per person.
The required equipment for scuba lessons include scuba mask, scuba fins with booties and snorkel. Scuba Network will offer a special equipment package at the rate of $110. Scuba Network will provide the following equipment for students; tanks, weights, buoyancy compensator, regulator with alternate source and gauges and necessary reading material. Two sessions will be offered. Session I dates are on Mondays, July 12, 19, 26 and Aug. 2 from 7 to 11 p.m. Session II dates are on Mondays, Aug. 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 7 to 11 p.m. Registration for scuba lessons will be ongoing until Friday July 9,. The Village pool will once again be having an intramural swim team. The intramural swim team is designed to further enhance swim stroke development. Registration for swim team will be ongoing until Friday, July 2. This registration will take place in the staff room at the village pool during pool hours. Swimmers will need to bring their leisure pass to sign up and will be asked if they are interested in having a competitive swim team for the 2005 pool season. Please ask for Swim Coaches, Kat Maher, Megan Wellenbrink, Joe Williams or Jon Zeitchek. As a reminder to all residents, there will be an open pool board meeting on Saturday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at the village pool.
