The Mineola Middle School lacrosse team avenged last season's opening 11-0 loss at Roslyn with a convincing 10-4 victory. The Mustangs controlled this game from start to finish jumping out to leads of 3-0 and 5-2 by halftime. Carlos Barros had 2 goals and 4 assists while quarterbacking the Mustangs offense, but the day would belong to co-Captain John Englis. Englis had career highs in goals (5) and points (6). None of Roslyn's defenders could stop his dodges from behind the goal and he was given the green light all afternoon. Michael Diglio, Kyle Mercurio and Mike Reis also scored for Mineola. Rocco Redmond added an assist and cleared the ball on numerous occasions. The defense, led by co-Captain David Lopez and seventh grader Thomas Palumbo, came up with its best and most consistent effort of the season never allowing Roslyn to mount any serious attack. Tobin George, recently inserted into a second midfield position won 3 of 4 face-offs and played a strong game. Defensive midfielders Marco and Helder Santiago, along with long pole Eric O'Brien also played their best games of the year. The team's record stands at 3 wins and 2 losses with four games remaining.
