In its relatively short life, the Mineola High School girls lacrosse program has distinguished itself in many ways. Another milestone was reached this season as these Lady Laxers played their way to an undefeated season.

Though a wonderful and prolific offense tallied the goals, the other end of the field should also be recognized. The defense played wonderfully together all season, led by senior Liz Kocienda and junior Amy Kemmler.

Kemmler and Kocienda not only distinguished themselves on the field this season but also in the classroom. Both of these young ladies are being recognized for their academic achievements for having earned Academic All-American status this season. Liz is being recognized for the second time and Amy for the first time.

To earn Academic All-American status these athletes needed to have a cumulative average, from freshman year through the present term, of a 3.6 GPA or better out of a 4.0 academic scale. This average was based on most of their course load being in college preparatory or advanced placement courses. Additionally these young ladies had to have made significant contributions to the school and community beyond participation in athletic teams.

Both Liz's and Amy's community activities are too numerous to mention here but needless to say it appears as if these girls never sleep.

Liz is graduating ninth in the Class of 2004, will be attending Gettysburg College next year where she plans to try out for the volleyball team. Luckily for the Lady Mustangs, Amy returns for her senior year at the high school in the fall of 2004.
