Residents will be going to the polls on Tuesday, May 18 to vote on proposed school budgets for the 2004-2005 school year. In Mineola, residents will be voting on a proposed $64,970,912.

Incident of Vandalism at Mineola High School
Students and staff discovered on Monday morning, May 3, that seven trees in front of Mineola High School in Garden City Park had been cut down and graffiti spread on the ground and windows of the school that seemed to target Principal Michael Nagler. Police are investigating the matter.

She Gave Gift of Love
The community of Mineola lost one of its dearest friends when Louise DiGiorgio died on Saturday, May 1, at the age of 77. Louise will be remembered as the loving wife of Joseph and loving mother of Joanne and will always have a special place in the hearts of those who knew her.

Varsity Baseball Team Plays in Brooklyn
The Mineola High School varsity baseball team had a great opportunity to play a game at Keyspan Park in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The Mustangs and Valley Stream South High School were generously loaned the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones for a non-league game.

Mineola Grad Leads Scranton Royals
Kate Nelson is a '00 Mineola H.S. graduate and Senior Captain of the University of Scranton Women's Lacrosse team. A four year letter winner and three year starter on defense, Kate played a key role in helping the Lady Royals complete an undefeated season in 2004 and capture their second straight MAC (Middle Atlantic Conference) title defeating Drew University 13 - 10 on Saturday May 1 before a huge crowd at Fitzpatrick field. Scranton will now play in the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. Last season they reached the "Sweet Sixteen", eventually losing to Gettysburg College.
