MFD Mourns Loss of Honorary Chief Seaman
It is with great sadness the officers and members of the Mineola Fire Department announced the passing of Honorary Chief Herbert Seaman on Monday, April 5th. Herb was the senior member of the Mineola Fire Department having joined the department on May 15, 1932 at the age of 21. Herb served almost 72 years with Truck Company 2, including serving as Company Captain from 1945 to 1947. He was conferred the honor of Honorary Chief on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in 1982. Herb was also active in the Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association where he served as financial secretary for 25 years.

Mayor Cuts Tax Increase, Budget Passes
Mayor Jack M. Martins called a special meeting of the Mineola Board of Trustees on Friday for the purpose of voting on the village budget for the 2004-2005 fiscal year, which begins on June 1, 2004 and ends May 31, 2005. The village board passed the budget unanimously with Deputy Mayor Larry Werther making the motion and Trustee Lou Santosus providing the second.

Nothing Lax About Mustangs Lacrosse
Mineola High School boys lacrosse coach Mark Miller has had to steer his guys through a streaky season. It's been a tale of two seasons. The first saw Mineola get off to an outstanding start by stringing together five consecutive wins. But, that was followed by six straight losses. This year's varsity squad is made-up of 17 boys, with a pretty even split between eight seniors and nine juniors.
