I attended last week's village board meeting and I was very disturbed by what I saw. It is the mayor's right to appoint the heads of the various departments in our village. It is then up to the board to approve those appointments. When Mayor Martins announced his appointments, all of whom served our village in the same positions they were being reappointed to, Trustee Paul Cusato made a motion to table the appointments. He said it was because he didn't know the appointees. What is even more bizarre is that Linda Fairgrieve and Lou Santosus seconded the motion and voted along with him. Linda and Lou have known these people for years. Why didn't they vouch for them? They know the type of quality job these people do for us and they voted to hold off their reappointment for reasons I can only imagine.

The new majority on our board can paralyze our village if they insist on playing these hack games. Mayor Martins has put this village back on the right track in only one year. It seems to me that politics may derail this. Why do I say this? Because Paul, Linda and Lou apparently have no regard for the livelihood of our village employees and people who play games with other people's lives are capable of anything.
