Justin Sandler, a third-grade student at Jackson Avenue School, received his Cho Dan Black Belt at a special ceremony held in January at Charles Water's Karate & Fitness. The black belt test consisted of terminology, forms, endurance, one-step sparring, self-defense, kicks, knowledge of culture and a 1,000 word written essay as well as board breaking.
Justin has been taking karate lessons at Charles Water's Karate & Fitness for the last six years. His karate training, as well as schooling, has helped him to succeed in what he does, help those who need it, be polite, courteous and respectful. Karate helped him to develop physically as well as mentally, build his confidence and, more importantly, learn to set goals and stick to them.
Some of Justin's accomplishments include consistently placing first, second, or third in national and regional tournaments in sparring and forms. He also holds a brown belt two stripes in Jiu Jitsu, pitches on his baseball team, plays soccer and studies Muay Thai boxing.
