Motion for Fact-Finding Commission Fails at Board Meeting
At last Wednesday's public meeting of the Village of Mineola Board of Trustees, Trustee Linda Fairgrieve proposed appointing a fact-finding commission to ascertain why it took until the independent audit was completed in December to find out the village had a $536,000 deficit in the General Fund of the 2002-2003 budget, which closed on May 31, 2003. However, Mayor Jack M. Martins criticized Trustee Fairgrieve's proposal as a political ploy.

Mineola Blacks Improve to 8 - 1
On this past Sunday when the whole country was getting ready for the Super Bowl, the Dynamic Blacks of the 11-year-old division were getting ready to take on the yellow team on that clear and cold Sunday morning. The yellow team came out strongly and took an early lead in the first. The Blacks tied up the game by a lightning-fast wrist shot by Nick Riccardi. Midway through the second with the Blacks down by two goals, Keith Williams came back and scored back-to-back top shelf goals which tied the game at three. Just before the second period ended the Blacks would take the lead for the first time of the game by a highly intensified wrist shot by Joseph Calabro that hit the post which sounded like music to everyone's ears.

Reggie Carter Remembered, Mineola Sweeps
Reggie Carter Night, held at Mineola High School on Friday, Jan. 30, featured a three-game sweep by the Mustangs as the girls varsity basketball team beat Clarke High School in overtime 52-50 and the junior varsity and varsity basketball teams defeated Valley Stream North.
