The Mineola High School boys bowling squad reached the midway point of its season in 4th place in its conference. The Mustangs had a record of 32-34, having bowled in six matches, winning two of them.

Coach Helmut Bohringer said, "While this doesn't seem very impressive, it's important to consider that out of 42 other schools that compete in bowling, we are in 16th place, and that would qualify us for the county tournament."

Leading the way for Mineola is sophomore Anthony Tretolo with a 207 average. His high game of 289 has been one of the highlights of the season. Seniors who are also leading the Mustangs are Vito Errico with a 183 average and Peter Marson, who carries a 179 average. Juniors Chris Williams and Anthony Nicaj round out the varsity roster.

The Mustang JV team is currently in 5th place and continues to improve as the season moves along. Leading the squad are sophomores Brian Ciuffo, John Carnabucci, Matt Ponte, Eric Goldstein and freshmen Joe Calvao and Phil Tapias.

Coach Bohringer said, "If these Mustangs continue to develop, we will be a county tournament qualifier for years to come."

The coach also pointed out that the Mineola squad's matches are usually held on Wednesdays and Thursdays about 4 p.m., and he and the boys would love your support at the Sheridan Lanes.
