At recent meetings of the Village of Mineola Board of Trustees, Trustee Linda Fairgrieve has been pushing for amendments to the village code in an attempt to curb illegal housing in the village. However, the trustee's proposal hasn't made it as far as a public hearing since there is some question as to whether the village has the authority to enforce such amendments. FULL STORY

The winds of change blew through Mineola in 2003. The village government changed as a new mayor was elected. The board of trustees also welcomed two new members. The new administration also got to work on implementing some changes. The Mineola School District had some highs and lows in 2003. Corpus Christi's Seventh Grade basketball team waited an entire month to get on the court and play their first game. Snowstorms in December and amended scheduling had the team chomping at the bit to suit up. When the inevitable finally occurred, the boys were treated to a rude road trip and a bitter two point defeat at the buzzer. True to their coach's character, Mike Falotico's battalion marched back onto the court a week later and recorded two consecutive convincing victories en route to a 2-1 record on the season. It was cold and brisk but a beautiful Friday evening on Dec. 12, when the face-off at 7:30 p.m. was going to take place between the Mineola Blacks and the Blues of the 11-year-old division.
