The Wheatley School Athletic Department and Varsity Club are proud to announce that Lea and Brad Cirino have been selected for induction into the Wheatley Hall of Fame. The sister and brother duo were outstanding basketball players during their years at Wheatley in the early 1990's, and they both, single-handedly, rewrote the record books for their respective programs.
Lea and Brad will be inducted at a ceremony between a varsity girls and boys basketball doubleheader at the Wheatley School on Tuesday, Jan. 13. The girls game against Friends Academy will start at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will host Malverne Varsity Club during half-time of the varsity girls' game (approximately 6 p.m.), to which friends, teammates, family members and friends of Wheatley basketball are invited. The reception will be held in the auxiliary gym.
Lea, a 1994 graduate of the Wheatley School, led the Lady Wildcats to a Nassau County championship during her senior year. She was a four-year starter on the varsity team and earned all-county honors for three years and all-Long Island honors during her junior and senior years. Lea led Nassau County in scoring for three years and established four career-scoring records for Wheatley girls basketball.
Brad, like his sister, was a four-year starter and earned all-county honors for three years. During his junior and senior years, Brad received all-New York State recognition. He graduated in 1993 and finished his brilliant career with a Wheatley record of 1,606 career points.
