Daniel Medlock and Allyson Strein were the proud recipients of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Students of the Year awards.
Dan and Allyson joined the male and female award winners from each Nassau County School on Dec. 8 at the Milleridge Cottage in Jericho. This award represents excellence in physical education and a commitment to community service and extra curricular activities. The physical education department at Mineola High School selected both students.
The Mineola Physical Education Department is proud to have Danny Medlock as its male recipient of the 2003 NYSAAPHERD Student of the Year. Danny has consistently demonstrated leadership characteristics in both athletics and physical education. He is a member of the varsity football, basketball and baseball teams. He was named All Conference in football as a junior and is this year's team captain. Danny was also the Student Organization Class President last year. Danny's prowess in athletics and physical education set him apart from most students, but what makes him stand out is his positive attitude and his overwhelmingly charming personality. Congratulations to Danny.
Allyson is a well-rounded student athlete who excels in all facets of the school requirement. While at Mineola, Ally has participated on the track, basketball, softball and volleyball teams. She earned All Conference in volleyball in 2002. Academically, Ally has a 94 percent average and is an active member of student life. She was a member of the Mineola District Strategic Planning Committee, a member of Athletes Helping Athletes, Future Teachers Club, Peer Leadership, SADD and class representative for the Student Organization. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was a candidate for the County Seat Kiwanis Award. The Mineola Physical Education Department is proud to recognize Ally as its recipient of the NYSAAPHERD Student of the Year award. Congratulations to Ally.
