Advocate for Handicapped Sees Problem at Mineola Boulevard Bridge
On a blustery Saturday afternoon, Mineola resident Dan Flynn attempted to wheel his son Tom, who is confined to a wheelchair, over the recently built Mineola Boulevard bridge. Although Flynn was able to complete the task, he admits is was not easy since he feels the bridge is too steep for those in wheelchairs.

Islanders Visit Mineola Community Center
New York Islanders Dave Scatchard and Trent Hunter visited the Mineola Community Center last week to speak to the children from Mineola Youth and Family Services about what it took to realize their dreams. A invitation was extended to the team by Mineola Youth and Family Services director Suzanne Skaflestad and assistant director Ed Paley. Despite coming back home after a road trip, the two players accepted the invitation and answered questions about playing professional hockey and then signed autographs for the kids.

Mineola Football Team Is Big Four Champions
The Mineola varsity football team earned the right to compete at Hofstra in the Nassau County playoffs capping off a wild but successful season. The Mustangs finished with a record of 4-4 to finish ahead of 10 other teams in their conference to earn the fourth and final spot in this year's playoffs. Due to their high seed and tough schedule the boys ended up with more power points than four other teams that had more wins than they did. A few of those teams did not play Mineola during the year. The Mustangs also defeated Manhasset who finished in the third spot and lost a heartbreaker 29-27 to Clarke HS on the last play of the game. (Clarke finished in the second position.)

MHS Girls Varsity Soccer Notes
The Mineola Girls Varsity Soccer team's season ended with a disappointing record of 4 wins and 10 losses. The season that started with so much anticipation has left players and parents alike, shaking their heads in disbelief. With an influx of seasoned JV players moving up to the varsity level, the team appeared to be primed for success. Fast forwards in plentiful numbers, game-controlling midfielders with impressive passing skills, rock solid defense and experienced goaltending set the table for what appeared to be an exciting season.
