The student performers in the Mineola High School Mustangs Marching Band and Rockettes have a lot to be proud of this fall. After a solid season in first place-five out of five wins-the youngsters return from the New York State Field Band Championships as one of the top two marching bands in the state for their class.

Fresh from a first place win at Phoenix High School in Syracuse on Saturday, the Mineola marchers took to the turf in the Carrier Dome at Syracuse University Sunday morning and wowed the judges and crowd alike with their well-honed routine. From the first strains of The Dance of the Matador through the final note of Estancia, the student musicians were in perfect pitch and step. When it was all said and done, Mineola High School seized second place, less than half a point away from the first place score.

"The group's performance was a visual and musical milestone for our students and this program," Supervisor of Fine Arts Rob Ratner said. "I congratulate each and every student, staff member and parent for their teamwork in garnering such an exceptional achievement."

The New York State Field Band Conference regulates and schedules field band events in New York State and enhances school field band competitions. The Conference goal is to encourage and provide the most positive experience possible for all participants.
