The Mineola Mustang 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk and one mile run/walk are fast approaching; this event is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 23. A very important meeting will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Mineola Village Hall/Community Center, located on Washington Avenue, to discuss this event and to assemble the mailing of the race application to thousands of walkers and runners. Many volunteers are needed to help stamp and label. All persons are invited to attend. This event is the biggest fundraiser in Mineola and benefits the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps., Mineola Athletic Association, Mineola Police Athletic League, Mineola Auxiliary Police, Mineola Fire Department, Mineola Historical Society, Mineola Youth and Family Services, Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop University Hospital and the Parent and Child Education Inc. (PACE). Over $30,000 was raised from the 2002 event and distributed among the foregoing groups.
