Edward Francis Melvin, formerly of Mineola, died in Florida, on Sept. 2, 2003 and was buried in Florida Veterans National Cemetery with full honors with a gun salute. He was a veteran of WWII, served about three and one half years in General Patton's 3rd Armored Division. Near the end of the war he was wounded in the leg. He received several medals including the Purple Heart. His wife passed away 10 years ago. They had no children. He was 84 years of age. He leaves an older brother, Robert E. Melvin, a WWII veteran of the US Air Force who served about three and one half years until the end of the war, and a youngest brother Charles A. Melvin of Mineola.
