  • News: MAPD Is on the Job, But Seeking New Members

    The Village of Mineola is blessed to have such dedicated volunteer organizations. The Mineola Fire Department is always there in an emergency or a community event or crisis; the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps is always on call with its quick response times to help community members in their most serious moments of need. Then there is the Mineola Auxiliary Police Department. The department often goes unnoticed whether it is helping control traffic and safety and parades and village functions or patrolling the streets of Mineola in the evening. But the members of the MAPD, although dwindling in number, remain dedicated to their cause, which is making Mineola safer, a tradition that started in 1941. FULL STORY

    Speeding in Mineola is considered by some to be a problem. While cars often speed down Mineola's major roadways such as Westbury Avenue and Union Street as well as Mineola Boulevard, some residents feel that speeding has become a problem even on streets that are close to major roadways.   • Sports: Mineola Marching Band & Rockettes Off to a Roaring Start

    The Mineola High School Mustang Marching Band and Rockettes started their competitive season off with a roar this past weekend. Celebrating a first place finish out of six bands in their class at the NY State Field Band Conference competition at Copiague HS on Sept. 14 and a first ranking in all of New York State. Their score of 70.9 was more than three points over the next closest competitor putting the band in a coveted lead position in the densely packed and talented group of bands. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Mustangs Kick Off New Season

    The Mineola High School varsity football team opened defense of its Conference IV crown with a heart-breaking, last second, home-opening defeat. After battling back from a 15-0 second quarter deficit to tie the games, Mineola dropped an 18-15 decision to visiting East Rockaway. Matt Cooney kicked a 26-yard field goal with 11 seconds remaining. FULL STORY
