On certain streets where there is a stretch of road without a stop sign or a light, motorists cruise down in speeds in excess of the village limits.

Down Westbury Avenue, the speed limit is clearly 30 miles per hour, but do motorists adhere to it?

Down Westbury Avenue last week, a Nassau County Police speed monitoring device was placed, recording motorists speeding in excess of the 30 mile per hour limit.

Other roads also have problems with speeding vehicles such as Union Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. There are main roads with lights that still don't prevent people from speeding such as Jericho Turnpike.

Is speeding a problem in your area? At the Mineola American, we would like to know. If you believe speeding is a problem in the village, give us your opinion by writing us at Mineola American, Speeding in the Village, 132 East 2nd Street, Mineola, NY 11501 or send an e-mail to j_rizza@antonnews.com with the subject "Mineola Speeding."
