Some high school athletes are starting to lift weights at a younger and younger age as they try to get larger and stronger each year. In some instances, they will take things too far with bad advice from personal trainers for a quick fix. As a way to create a controlled environment for students to work out, Chaminade High School in Mineola has just completed a new state of the art physical fitness center. FULL STORY

The Village of Mineola Mayor and Board of Trustees adopted a debt management plan to address the village's $33 million debt. Despite the village's financial advisor's opinion that adopting the debt management plan was a positive step, he did say the possibility of the village's bond rating being downgraded from its current A2 status is a possibility. The Mineola Pool will be hosting a lifeguard training course during the month of August. Participants will be trained in lifeguarding skills and will become eligible for Nassau County Lifeguard certification upon completion. Participants will also be trained in Basic First Aid and CPR and will receive certification in these areas. All participants must be 15 years of age or older prior to Aug. 5. Sign-ups for this course will be held in the Director's Office located at the Mineola Pool. Sign-ups will be held until Aug. 4 during pool hours.
