Board Considers Changes to Architectural Review Law
Mineola Mayor Jack M. Martins and the board of trustees are considering changes to the village's architectural review law, which, in some cases, has become too cumbersome on residents wanting to make improvements to their homes. If the changes are adopted as expected, the law will become less stringent and yet maintain its spirit, which is to preserve the architectural characteristics of neighborhoods in the village.

School District Cracks Down on Use of Fields
Mineola School District resident George Harte of Albertson took his children to the local playground at the nearby Meadow Drive School. Mr. Harte was surprised when a security enforcement turned him away from the school in what he said was an abrupt manner. The resident said he was made to feel like a trespasser instead of a taxpayer.

PAL Fifth Grade Lacrosse Finishes Their Second Undefeated Season
The fifth-grade lacrosse team finished their 2003 season with a 6-0-1 record. They finished up the second half of the season playing all three games at home defeating Syosset 6-3, Levittown 5-2 and Bethpage 7-3. The one away game with Seaford/Wantagh was rained out and could not be rescheduled.

Summer Fun at the Mineola Pool
The Mineola Pool held its first splash party on Saturday, July12, which was one of the most beautiful nights of the summer. The full moon glistened over the water as our members danced and splashed about the facility. Among many of the families attending the party were the Athans, the Freys, the Griecos, and the Tices.
