Thomas V. Flanagan, 86 of Mineola, died on July 4, 2003. He retired from the postal service in 1980 after 45 years, starting as a clerk on the floor and moving through various postal management levels. He became Postmaster of Brooklyn and then officer-in-charge (postmaster) of the NY General Post Office. Tom was a professional basketball player during the Golden Years which featured such teams as the original Celtics, Brooklyn Visitations, Philadelphia Sphas, Renaissance and the Cleveland Rosenblooms. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan; sons, Thomas, Terrance, Stephen and Kevin; 11 grandchildren; brother Eugene; and sister Joan Shea. Arrangements were made by the Cassidy Funeral Home, Mineola. Funeral Mass at Corpus Christi RC Church. Interment Calverton National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
