On Saturday, June 14, the Mineola Pool officially opened for the summer. There was a time in the spring when it looked as though the opening of the pool may have been in jeopardy. When the cover was taken off the pool, it was noticed that the paint had deteriorated.
In a span of six weeks, the pool was painted with two coats and it was prepared for its June 14 opening. Mayor Jack Martins said the pool opening on time is a testament to the work of Superintendent of Public Works Tom Rini, Recreation Director Kyle Teemsma and the staff. Mayor Martins commented that the pool looks great and the staff is well prepared.
The following week, Mrs. Teemsma submitted her resignation, which will take effect on July 2. Mayor Martins said it was very kind of Mrs. Teemsma to stay on for the opening of the pool.
Mrs. Teemsma has been well known in the Mineola community and plans to continue to visit the pool.
The pools hours of operations are:
Monday 2 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Tuesday-Sunday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Adult Swimming Only Tuesday-Friday 8 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
Mineola to Have Intramural Swim Program
In the past, much was made about having a Mineola swim team. This year, the pool will continue to have an intramural swim program where Mineola swimmers will compete against each other. However, next year, the pool board hopes to form a Mineola swim team that will compete against teams outside of the village.
