On Tuesday night, June 3, the Mineola Athletics Booster Club honored all those who made the 2002-2003 school year a memorable one in the annals of Mineola High School athletics.

From the conference titles of the football team, boys soccer team and girls winter track team to the upset of #1 seeded Clarke by the girls softball team in the playoffs, the Mustangs provided the school community with moments of pride.

Mineola also sent six students - Chris Boeshore, Jessica Donahue, Nicole Lapin, Krisin McNally, Adam Minsky and Joe Stigliano - to the State Championship Track and Field Meet in Endicott, NY.

The Mineola Booster Club's annual awards dinner gave the coaches, parents and the district's athletic department an opportunity to recognize those that have made the Mustangs' sports year successful.

The night ended with the naming of the male and female athletes of the year. The male athlete of the year is a student who is referred to by some as the franchise. Rich Medlock led the Mustangs football team to the conference title as its quarterback and was named All-County. He was also named All-County in basketball. He also played on the baseball team. His quiet confidence and leadership combined with his athletic ability make Rich Medlock the deserving choice for the male athlete of the year for 2003.

The female athlete of the year is a person who every coach would love to have on their team. Kristin McNally played on the girls volleyball team, was named All-County and a Scholar Athlete on the girls basketball team, was named All-Division in the discus for the girls spring track team, and sent to the state championships for the discus. McNally is thought of highly by her coaches and teammates and deserves to be named the female athlete of the year for 2003.

Congratulations to all those who made the 2002-2003 year successful.
