Recently talked with Walter and Grace Weismantel who live in Florida. Walter used to own that wonderful bakery located some 50 years across from what was then the village hall on Jericho Turnpike. Walter, who once ran for village trustee, was a member of the Pool Board for some 15 years. He and Grace are still very alive as they swim almost everyday. Walter has become a pretty fair actor with a group called the Pelican Players. He also works as a teacher's aide and both he and Grace volunteer at the local hospital. Grace, the former Grace Cunningham, was born in Williston Park. By the way, she was a classmate of Charlie Munder who owns the hardware store.

We recently visited Scranton, PA where our daughter Sr. Annmarie is stationed and stayed at the Radisson Hotel. The hotel was formerly the train station of the long gone Lackawanna Railroad. The huge reception area has the high ceilings similar to those of waiting rooms found in places such as Grand Central Station. Throughout the hotel are those long benches familiar to anyone who has spent time in RR waiting rooms. The Carlton Hotel in Binghamton was also an old Lackawanna station. There seems to be a trend to utilize these old stations in a similar manner. Our daughter will be moving in June to a new position and be residing in Silver Spring, MD.

Those overused laugh tracks can really be annoying. We occasionally like to watch a sitcom. A joke that might cause a person to smile is greeted by uproarious laughter. I guess they think we are too stupid to know when to laugh.
