It was good to see Mayor Jack Martins at the Chamber of Commerce meeting. Jack says he hopes to attend many of the meetings. Also from the village board were Larry Werther and Linda Fairgrieve. The guest speaker was Vince Muscarnera, police commander of the 3rd Precinct and the in-house speaker was Bill Henley of Gorilla Alarms. Next chamber meeting will be May 20 at which the new officers will be installed. This meeting is free to all members of the business community whether they are members or not. It was announced that the annual Mineola Fair will be held May 17 rain or shine. A crowd of about 10,000 is expected.

Something should be done about these street corner florists. Always before a big holiday like Easter and Mother's Day they open and sell flowers at discounted prices. This is unfair competition to the florists who must pay rent, salaries, taxes and insurance.

The New York Sun marked its first anniversary last month. This is a continuation of the old NY Sun of Clarence Day which was started in the 1850s and was made famous by Virginia's letter to Santa Claus. We seldom agree with the editorial slant of the NY Sun but are still happy to see a new daily newspaper.
