Mineola High School's Sports Marketing class recently enjoyed a field trip to the historic Yankee Stadium. Upon entering Yankee Stadium, the class was escorted upstairs to a luxury suite that looks out onto the field. During their stay in the luxury suite, the class learned the cost of renting a suite. Depending upon the size of the luxury suite, the cost is between $300,000 to $500,000 for the baseball season. The students were also shown a video of Yankee History, which included great players such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle. In addition to the players, moments of significance included: Yankees became a team 100 years ago, and were called the New York Highlanders: Pinstripes first appeared on Yankee uniforms in 1912; The Highlanders were officially renamed the "Yankees" after moving to the Polo Grounds, which they shared with the New York Giants in 1913; Yankees purchased the contract of Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox for $125,000 in 1920; Yankee Stadium opens in 1923; June l, 1925, Lou Gehrig begins his streak of 2,130 consecutive games played; May 2, 1939, Lou Gehrig's playing streak of 2,130 consecutive games; July 17, 1941, Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak ends; April 17, 1953, exactly two years after his Yankee debut, Mickey Mantle hits what is recognized as the game's first "tape-measure" home run; George Steinbrenner purchases the Yankees in 1973; Yankees play the first of two seasons at Shea Stadium in 1974; and Oct. 26, 2000, the Yankees win their 26th World Championship be defeating cross-town rival, the New York Mets.

After visiting the luxury suite, the class was brought to the Press Box, located behind home plate. The class learned of all the press credentials that the Yankees provide, especially for the playoffs. From the Press Box, the next stop was the Yankee Clubhouse, where All-Star Catcher, Thurman Munson still has a memorial locker. After visiting the Clubhouse, the students enjoyed sitting in the Yankee Dugout, where they learned about advertising located in and around the stadium. The class then had the opportunity to walk on the warning track of the field on their way to Monument Park, which is located behind the left field wall. Monument Park contains the plaques of famous Yankees, as well as the September 11 monument.

Concluding the field trip with information on all the different positions that the Yankees employ, and the vast preparation that goes into a baseball season, the Sports Marketing class was given a Yankees' key chain. The remainder of their day was spent recalling their experience, one that will not soon be forgotten.
