Congratulations to Jack Martins and his running mate Larry Werther on their victory at the polls. Jack becomes the 11th mayor in Mineola's history. We congratulate Lou Santosus on retaining his position as trustee. Natalie Schmidt, daughter of Jerry and Conception was baptized at Corpus Christi on a recent Sunday.

John Murray of McClellan Place works for the county in the public safety department. He is a member of the fire department and has lived in Mineola for 45 years.

Ron Ciesinski is the assistant superintendent of public works in Mineola.

Former East Williston Mayor Dolores Sedecca is a customer of Fleet Bank.

Doris Negar is a faithful parishioner at Corpus Christi Church and enjoys eating lunch at Jonathan's Restaurant. Doris lives on Roslyn Road.

Stan and Vicki Pitcavage have lived in the village for 37 years. Their first home was on Weybridge Road, then they moved to Brown Street and now they recently bought a home on Roslyn Road in East Williston.

On a recent morning at the Jericho Diner we met State Senator Mike Balboni and Kiwanian and Realtor Pete Owens.

Taking a brisk walk in the west end on a Friday morning were Doris Bezman of Jackson Avenue and Olga Pokol of Emory Road.

Our springtime friends, the geese, appeared on the lawn of the middle school instead of their usual habitat in the park.

Bob and Grace McLaughlin of Wilson Boulevard will soon be leaving the village after 45 years. They are moving to New Jersey to be near their daughter.

Bill and Peggy Kist of Searing Avenue used to own Knott's Pharmacy at Main and 2nd Streets. Bill began to work as a delivery boy for the then owner Joe Knott and then later bought the business. In total he spent 51 years at the drug store.

Drawings on a recently discovered tomb of an ancient pharaoh shows a man with a stick in his hand holding a ball and depicts two men catching the ball. The inscription beneath reads "Man hits ball with stick." Could this have been a forerunner of our national pastime some 4,000 years ago?

We missed our happy-go-lucky Irish head usher Tony Donnelly at the recent St. Patrick's Day parade. Tony and his wife Beverly were visiting their daughter in Silver Spring, MD.

Bill Grant works for Radiant Realty. Bill and his wife Barbara have lived on Lewis Place for the past 31 years.

Stopping in for a pint at O'Donnell's Pub on St. Patrick's Day we met Martin Gallagher of Donegal, Vinnie Mayor of Sligo, Pete Drew of Dublin, Christine Wolf, Allyson Seeman and Dee Kern of 2nd Street. All served by Mineola's best looking bartender, Laura Blake of Mineola.

Our friend Jim Smith who used to cover the Islanders for Newsday is now the special features editor of the paper's Part II. Jim does features such as the recent one on LI Wildlife. He used to live on Bauer Place but has now moved to Williston Park.

Gene and Karen Goulet live on Andrews Road. You can frequently meet Gene, who is a cop, walking his big Airedale around town.

* * * *

Laura Evans looks as young and pretty as ever. It's hard to remember that she used to work at Howard Johnson's when they were located where Jonathan's is today. Laura is now working at our favorite diner.
