Corpus Christi Pastor James Bowman said we have a great parish and thanked all who serve including the deacons, lay readers, Eucharistic ministers, choir, altar servers, ushers, hospitality committee, outreach program, CYO, school board and religious education teachers. Father Bowman was formerly an Army chaplain and served in the Persian Gulf War.

Hurray for Ireland. Next year's Long Island St. Patrick's Day parade will be held right here in Mineola, home of the Irish-American Club. The parade has been held for many years in Garden City.

In discussing the battle between All Island Cab and Checker Cab we overlooked one other franchise holder, Young's Taxi owned by Larry Young. His cab is actually yellow.

Lou Gerstner died recently. He and his wife Marge were long-time residents of the village. Lou was an executive with Schaeffer Beer Co. and Marge worked as an insurance agent with the Harry Beirne Co. Their son Louis Gerstner became CEO of IBM, one of the largest firms in America. He recently retired and has written a book, If Elephants Could Dance which is on the bestseller list.

Annette and Frank Sclafani of Linden Road have informed us that Eileen Court, formerly of Bauer Place and now living in upstate New York, has received the Úquot;Achievement AwardÚquot; from the State Legislature for her outstanding service on behalf of the aging. Eileen and Stanley Court raised two college grads, Linda and Jimmy, who both graduated from Mineola schools and are now parents themselves. Eileen was employed at Winthrop Hospital for many years while Stanley taught at New York City high schools.

Former Corpus Christi priest Father Tom Murphy attended the last Chamber of Commerce meeting and told us that he has now been with his new parish, St. Mark's in Shoreham, for six months. He said we should all hope and pray for peace in the world.

Police Officer Bob Teemsma of Mineola has told us that he will soon be retiring from the force after 37 years on the job.

To help defray the cost of the upkeep of our playing fields non-Mineola residents must have a leisure pass and pay a fee of $25 once a season. All out-of-town teams must also pay a fee of $25 per game.

Village Justice John O'Shea and acting Justice Dick O'Callaghan report for the month that 2,437 parking tickets were issued plus 90 summonses for moving violations.
