Difficulties Don't Discourage Suozzi
During his campaign for Nassau County Executive, Tom Suozzi promised that he could do it because he's done it. But even the former Glen Cove mayor would concede that he's never done anything like the task he currently faces - giving a financially strapped county back its fiscal stability. Still, after a year in the position, the county executive displays the same confidence he did during the election campaign.

Attorney General Releases Report Concerning Mineola Tutor Time
New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer released a report recommending that steps be taken to avoid problems such as those associated with a Tutor Time daycare center at 80 Herricks Road in Mineola that was located next to Jackson Steel, a federal Superfund toxic waste site.

MHS Girls Varsity Basketball Notes
Having put their taste of success behind them in their tournament and non-league play, the Lady Mustangs set their sights on their first league game versus Island Trees. Mineola started out quickly from both an offensive and defensive perspective building a 11-4 lead in the first quarter. However, just as quickly as they built their lead, the Lady Mustangs gave it back in the second quarter by scoring only 6 points while Island Trees exploited Mineola in the paint. Led by their center, Island Trees shifted to their inside game to come back to lead by one at the half 28-27. Relying on their bench, Mineola came back in the second half on scoring by Liz Terezo and Liz Sanderleaf to take the lead at the end of the third quarter 28-26. However, Mineola's big guns were silent in the fourth quarter as Island Trees outscored Mineola 12-7 to win by three points, 38-35. Liz Terezo led Mineola in scoring with 12 points with support from Liz Sanderleaf with 8, in a losing effort.

St. Aidan 5th Grade Girls Reach "A" Division Playoffs
The St. Aidan 5th grade basketball team, coached by Tom Flynn and Rich Sloper, reached the semi-finals of the CYO Nassau-Suffolk playoffs before being eliminated by the undefeated team from Good Shepard of Holbrook. They were the only St. Aidan Girl's team from any grade and one of only eight 5th grade girls teams from the over 100 player CYO basketball on Long Island that chose to compete in the top "A" Division. St. Aidan finished the regular season in fourth place with a 7-5 record and had defeated St. Anthony of East Northport in the first round of the playoffs.
