There's a new party in town. The "Mineola First" Party will run three candidates in the upcoming village election. Maryanne Warnecke, the former Village of Mineola trustee, will be running for mayor. Her running mates are Dorothy Rudolph and James LaMonica, who are both running for trustee. FULL STORY

The New Line Party will try to keep the momentum it gained last year when the party was formed. Jack Martins ran successfully in last year's election as he gained the most votes in the three-candidate race. This year, Martins is running for mayor. The Blackhawks of the Bantam Division have won its last three games and pulled into third place behind the Chiefs and the Lightning. Behind the excellent play of goalie Kevin Gayson, who has held opposing teams to only three goals in the last three games, the Blackhawks are now playing at their peak. With less than a half of the regular season remaining, the boys are hoping to put it all together in the playoffs and carry on the Blackhawks winning tradition. FULL STORY

The Mineola PAL Hockey Association held the first of two workshops for Sportsmanship and Fair Play. The first workshop was held Dec. 11, for the coaches. The second workshop for parents and children will be scheduled in February 2003. The coach's workshop was held at the Mineola Village Hall. Sixteen coaches braved the stormy weather to attend the workshop sponsored by New York Islanders. Warren Breining, Dan Bedard and Dan Wattell of Adelphi's Athletes Helping Athletes and the Sports Leadership Institute conducted the informative workshop. FULL STORY
