Mineola now has two Cub packs, the second was recently organized by the Church of the Nativity. The pack will meet at the church, located at 172 Willis Avenue in Mineola. Its first official meeting was on Dec. 11 and its second pack night will be held on Wednesday Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Anyone who wishes to register their child can show up that night or call the church at 746-0554 for more information. The pack is already planning several events that would include a car wash to raise some funds, participation in some district events, a sleepover at the church and a pinewood derby race. The dues for the new pack will be kept to a minimum to allow participation from all income levels.
Since the pack is new, they have very little equipment to start with and would appreciate donations of anything you may feel would be useful. The pack is also looking for additional leaders to fill its ranks and no experience is required. They already have a few leaders, but they will need several more to allow them to offer a high quality program.
The request to organize a new pack came directly from the Nassau County Boy Scout Counsel. They had determined that Mineola's other pack was getting a little too large and there was a need for a second one to be organized. The Church of the Nativity welcomed the idea with open arms. The entire congregation of Nativity was enthused about the prospect of having its own pack and look forward to supporting them in any way they can. One of its long-term members, John Bernhart, has agreed to serve as the pack's chairman or leader, if necessary. Peter Visconti, a former Scoutmaster, has greed to serve as its institutional representative and will serve as an adviser to the group.
