Looking to carry the momentum built in their dominating win over the Bethpage Bobcats, the Mineola Shooting Stars faced the Garden City Park Spurs at the Harbor Links Sports Complex. On this cool and clear day, Mineola very quickly realized that they faced two formidable opponents, the brisk wind in their faces and the Spurs themselves. The Spurs took advantage of the wind and worked it to their advantage with long, wind-aided kicks. This allowed Spur forwards to wait at just on-side and try to outrun the defense to the ball. Much to their credit, Mineola's defensive unit and goalie Nicole Peralta repeatedly turned the Spurs back. However, these circumstances left Mineola with very little margin for error. The Spurs finally got their break on a shot across the goal-mouth which caught the far post corner to take a 1-0 lead as the half came an end.

Now with the wind at their backs, the Shooting Stars came out in the second half, looking to tie the score. However, this was not to be as the Spurs went into a defensive mode, and combined with an ankle injury to forward Katie Steen, kept Mineola off the scoreboard in the second half to end the game 1-0.

Looking to clean away the bitter taste of defeat at the hands of Garden City Park, the Shooting Stars faced the Jericho Jaspers. Not wasting any time, the Shooting Stars opened the scoring on a goal by Christine Medlock. Christine used her speed and strength to split the defense, moved in on the goalie alone, and put her shot in just inside the goal post to give Mineola a 1-0 lead at the half. Looking to increase their lead in the second half, Christine once again split the defense and scored her second goal of the game, as Mineola's defense shut down the Jaspers to win 2-0.

With this win and loss, the Shooting Stars' record moved to three wins, one loss and one tie with which they have earned ten out of a possible fifteen points and second place tie in Division 5 standings. They next face the Bayside Bombers at Fort Totten in Queens.

A correction: In the last article, which reported the Shooting Star's game versus the Bethpage Bobcats, incorrectly reported a goal as being scored by Stephanie Klein. As everyone in attendance at the game knows, this goal was scored by Amanda Klein. This reporter apologizes to Amanda and regrets his error.
