There will be a Public Meeting held on Nov. 6 at the village hall, 155 Washington Avenue. Please note that this public meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. Village Offices will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in observance of Election Day. However, there will be regular garbage and compost collection. Starting the first week of November our sanitation department will collect 10 bags of leaves on each garbage collection day and on Wednesday, rubbish day. Please cooperate with the 10-bag limit.

The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) has a program to help LIPA customers save energy and lower their electric bills.

The 18th Annual Mineola Mustang Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Mineola Athletic Association, Mineola Police Athletic League, Mineola Auxiliary Police, Mineola Fire Department (Life Saving Equipment), Mineola Historical Society, Mineola Youth and Family Services. Plus special donations to the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop-University Hospital and the Parent and Child Education Program Inc. (PACE).

A healthy diet is important for everyone, but for those living with diabetes, nutrition is critical. Knowledge of the carbohydrate value of food is an essential part of the successful management of blood glucose levels. In an effort to help those with diabetes avoid unnecessary complications. Winthrop-University Hospital's Perspectives in Health series will present a special program, "A Virtual Supermarket Tour: What to Buy When You Have Diabetes" on Thursday, November 7, 2002. The evening will begin with a Products Fair at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7:30 at the Winthrop Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard in Mineola. Admission is free, but reservations are required and can be made by calling (516) 663-8300.

Lynne Chimon MS, RD, CDE, and Margaret Marinelli, MS, RD, CDE, two dietitians from Winthrop's Diabetes Education Center, will discuss the best choices in produce, meat and packaged foods, as well as portion sizes. The Products Fair will feature new meters, medications and other helpful items. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.

The Board of Zoning and Appeals will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the village hall, 155 Washington Avenue regarding the application of:

156 Latham Road - Application for variance to maintain a front enclosed covered porch with insufficient front yard setback contrary to Chapter 30, Article, Section 30.62.A.2 of the Incorporated Village of Mineola Municipal Code.

The board of trustees of the Incorporated Village of Mineola will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the village hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501, in order to receive public comment upon the following.

Application of Mahmond Haghighat/LOV ZEVO GROUP, INC. for a Special Use Permit for a laundromat use at 124 East Jericho Turnpike, pursuant to Section 30.31 (B) (10) of the Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola.
