Grace and I want to thank Mayor Colbert and the village trustees for helping to make the 50th anniversary of the Mineola American such a success. We received well wishes from so many people. Just to name a few - Tom Flynn of Kenilworth Road who said, "It was a wonderful newspaper;" his dad, Dan, echoed the sentiment, Ed Hanlon, Theresa Irace, Larry and Annmarie Egan, Mary Feight and many more.

John Valente was among the men working on the new Veterans Memorial in the park. John has been with the village for 35 years and was born in Mineola. He and his wife Lisa live on Grant Avenue.

The Mineola Chamber of Commerce is among those who donated to Chaminade's project to beautify Memorial Park. The Chaminade team will clean in and around the sump as well as around the entrance signs which were erected by the chamber. They will plant flowers and bushes and make the park look great.

Speaking of the park, it was nice to meet Kerry Tice walking through our beautiful park with her little ones in a stroller. Kerry, the former Kerry O'Neill, was once the assistant manager at the community pool. She and her husband Geoffrey live on Wellington Road.

Received a heartwarming letter about our 50th anniversary issue from former Corpus Christi priest Father Robert Batule. Father Bob, as you may recall, was appointed by Bishop William Murphy to the very important "Clergy Intervention" team.

Gerry Solosky had a bad fall from a stepladder and broke her leg, arm and rib. She and her husband live on Wellington Road and were involved for many years in the crusade against drugs.

Harold and Loretta Klarman of White Road marked their 53rd anniversary. Loretta tells us that she was born in Mineola 79 years ago.

Pat and Julia McCrave of Brown Street moved here as newlyweds in 1948. They recall seeing Liza Minelli in the play Fantastics at the Mineola Theater during that magical six years when we had live theater in the village. Pat and Julia used to skate at the Mineola Skating Rink. The McCraves are just back from Milwaukee where Pat attended the reunion of the 4th Division "L" Co. of the USMC.
