Patricia Mooney, of Garden City Park, formerly of Williston Park, died on Aug. 15, 2002. Wife of the late Michael. Mother of Kim and Paul Walters, Kelly and John Guzzo and Michael and Theresa Mooney. Daughter of the late William and Elizabeth. Sister of Elizabeth MacDougall and the late Catherine Krause. Grandmother of Ryan, Jon, Jason, Emilee, Lena and Adrienne. Arrangements were made by the Weigand Bros Funeral Home, Williston Park. Funeral Mass at St. Aidan's RC Church. . Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Contributions can be made, in Patricia Mooney's memory, to Hospice, Franklin Inpatient Unit 1D, 900 Merchants Concourse, Westbury, NY 11590.

It is with regret that we announce the passing of longtime resident of Mineola, Edward Patrick Gartland Sr., 85, on Aug. 26, 2002. Edward's wife, Helen, predeceased him in 1991. They are survived by four children, Edward Jr., Patricia Kelly, Jean Scharf and Virginia D'Esposito. Edward was the loving grandfather of 10, Thomas Kelly, Edward Kelly, Kathleen Kelly Banks, Steven Kelly, James Scharf Jr, Christine Scharf, Brian Scharf, Marianne Scharf, Laura D'Esposito and Rich D'Esposito. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren whom he enjoyed and loved immensely, Andrew Kelly, Kathryn Kelly, Tom Kelly and Sam Kelly Banks.

They were original owners of a house on Latham Rd. where they lived and raised their family for 47 years. They and their family enjoyed their lifetime in Mineola where they had wonderful neighbors and many good friends. In 1991, after Helen died, Ed moved to Leisure Village in Ridge to be close to family. More recently Ed needed the services of the Veteran's Home in Stony Brook. The wake was held at the Alexander-Tuthill Funeral Home in Wading River with burial at St. John's in Middle Village.

Robert R. Peppard, 76, of Tobyhanna, died on Aug. 29, 2002 at Wilkes-Barre Veteran's Hospice. He was the husband of Kathleen A. (Simpson) Peppard. Born in Kings, NY, he was the son of Clayton and Antonette (Pollock) Peppard. Robert retired after 21 years of service for the NYPD, where he received the Humane Society Medal of Honor for rescuing animals from a burning building. He also worked for the Dept. of the Interior - Hoover Dam Security and was a federal marshal and head of security for NY Federal Buildings.

He also served as chief of the Mineola Fire Dept. and was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. A very active member of the VFW and a fourth degree Knight of Columbus, he was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. In addition, he served as Pocono Country Place police chief and was president of the PCP Social Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sons, Mark Peppard of Piscataway, NJ, and Robert W. Peppard of Freehold, NJ; a daughter, Kathleen Peppard of Santa Cruz, CA; two brothers, Gregory Peppard of Mineola and James Peppard of Albertson; a sister, Genevieve Reidlinger of Mineola; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Father Michael Kloton celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann's Church, Tobyhanna. Cremation services provided by the Bolock Funeral Home, Paradise Valley, PA.
