Avoid these types of childhood poisonings by keeping all medications both out of sight and out of reach of your grandchildren. Should one of your children or grandchildren ingest medications, the Poison Control telephone number in our area is: 663-2650.
Lint Build-Up
Why would anyone be writing about lint build-up? The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that in a recent year that "...there were 16,700 fires, 30 deaths and 430 injuries associated with clothes dryers. Some of these fires can occur when lint builds up in the filter or in the exhaust duct."
To protect your family, clean the filters after each load of clothes and check the outside exhaust to determine if there is lint build-up. If the clothes are still damp after a normal cycle it might mean that the exhaust of the lint screen is blocked. Immediately attend to these blockages.
Another safety tip is to re-read the dryer manufacturer's instructions. Many recommend the use of rigid or flexible metal duct rather than using a plastic duct.
