Village Offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2.
There will be no residential garbage or compost collection on this date. The "revised" collection schedule for the holiday week is as follows:
* If your usual collection days are Monday and Thursday, garbage and compost will be collected on Tuesday and Thursday.
* If your usual collection days are Tuesday and Friday, your garbage and compost will be collected on Wednesday and Friday.
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. This meeting will be at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue. The public is invited to attend.
The Vic Vincent Group will be performing "Oldies but Goodies" at the library at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
As of Saturday, Aug. 24, the pool hours will be adjusted to 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. daily. The pool closes for the season on Labor Day, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
The Fall Session for the village's senior recreation program is scheduled to begin the first week in October. We are planning to offer such courses as Yoga, Tai Chi, Group Dancing, and Make and Take Crafts. Registration will be done by mail. The Mineola American will be publishing its 50th Anniversary Edition on Oct. 2.
This edition will "...highlight the newspaper's role in community life over the past 50 years."

Your library will on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. feature a presentation by Master Gardener, Vincent Drzewucki, re: planting and planning tips for bulbs in your garden.

The Long Island Rail Road's "One-Day Getaways" program continues into the fall.
On Sept. 15, Oct. 5 and on the 26th you may wish to cruise aboard a rear wheel paddle steamer on the Great South Bay.
There will be waterfront dining at the Snapper Inn as well as a self-guided tour at Bayard Cutting Arboretum which is located along the Connetquot River.
An " airship" left Mineola on July 9, 1919 to return to England with mail.
The Social Security website (www.ssa.gov) has a listing of the
"...top 1000 names of 2001."
Why Social Security would have such a list was at first, uncertain. However, since even babies have Social Security cards, the "mystery' was solved.
