Some parents voiced their disappointment at the ruling earlier this summer that Mineola would not compete against other pools in swim meets. On Thursday, Mineola had a chance to compete against Valley Stream in a swim meet for the Mayor's Cup.

The meet, which consisting of participants ranging in age from 5 and under to 17, consisted of events such as the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, medley and relay.

The meet lasted approximately an hour and was well organized. Although Valley Stream edged Mineola 308 to 297, both teams showed sportsmanship and competed hard.
